Cassiopeia the Bride

Let's read about the arrangement of the Tribal Camps as recorded in the Book of Numbers (NIV), chapter 2:

The Arrangement of the Tribal Camps

2 The Lord said to Moses and Aaron: 2 "The Israelites are to camp around the tent of meeting some distance from it, each of them under their standard and holding the banners of their family."

3 On the east, toward the sunrise, the divisions of the camp of Judah are to encamp under their standard. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab. 4 His division numbers 74,600.

5 The tribe of Issachar will camp next to them. The leader of the people of Issachar is Nethanel son of Zuar. 6 His division numbers 54,400.

7 The tribe of Zebulun will be next. The leader of the people of Zebulun is Eliab son of Helon. 8 His division numbers 57,400.

9 All the men assigned to the camp of Judah, according to their divisions, number 186,400. They will set out first.

10 On the south will be the divisions of the camp of Reuben under their standard. The leader of the people of Reuben is Elizur son of Shedeur. 11 His division numbers 46,500.

12 The tribe of Simeon will camp next to them. The leader of the people of Simeon is Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai. 13 His division numbers 59,300.

14 The tribe of Gad will be next. The leader of the people of Gad is Eliasaph son of Deuel. 15 His division numbers 45,650.

16 All the men assigned to the camp of Reuben, according to their divisions, number 151,450. They will set out second.

17 Then the tent of meeting and the camp of the Levites will set out in the middle of the camps. They will set out in the same order as they encamp, each in their own place under their standard.

18 On the west will be the divisions of the camp of Ephraim under their standard. The leader of the people of Ephraim is Elishama son of Ammihud. 19 His division numbers 40,500.

20 The tribe of Manasseh will be next to them. The leader of the people of Manasseh is Gamaliel son of Pedahzur. 21 His division numbers 32,200.

22 The tribe of Benjamin will be next. The leader of the people of Benjamin is Abidan son of Gideoni. 23 His division numbers 35,400.

24 All the men assigned to the camp of Ephraim, according to their divisions, number 108,100. They will set out third.

25 On the north will be the divisions of the camp of Dan under their standard. The leader of the people of Dan is Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai. 26 His division numbers 62,700.

27 The tribe of Asher will camp next to them. The leader of the people of Asher is Pagiel son of Okran. 28 His division numbers 41,500.

29 The tribe of Naphtali will be next. The leader of the people of Naphtali is Ahira son of Enan. 30 His division numbers 53,400.

31 All the men assigned to the camp of Dan number 157,600. They will set out last, under their standards.

32 These are the Israelites, counted according to their families. All the men in the camps, by their divisions, number 603,550. 33 The Levites, however, were not counted along with the other Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.

34 So the Israelites did everything the Lord commanded Moses; that is the way they encamped under their standards, and that is the way they set out, each of them with their clan and family.

So we have the camps of Judah, Reuben, Levites, Ephraim and Dan. That's a total of 5 groups. It must be so that Judah is first and Dan the last. Thus they were set out one after another. Numbers 10 (NIV) gives the confirmation on this order of march:

13 They set out, this first time, at the Lord's command through Moses.

14 The divisions of the camp of Judah went first, under their standard. Nahshon son of Amminadab was in command. 15 Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe of Issachar, 16 and Eliab son of Helon was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun. 17 Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and Merarites, who carried it, set out.

18 The divisions of the camp of Reuben went next, under their standard. Elizur son of Shedeur was in command. 19 Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon, 20 and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad. 21 Then the Kohathites set out, carrying the holy things. The tabernacle was to be set up before they arrived.

22 The divisions of the camp of Ephraim went next, under their standard. Elishama son of Ammihud was in command. 23 Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was over the division of the tribe of Manasseh, 24 and Abidan son of Gideoni was over the division of the tribe of Benjamin.

25 Finally, as the rear guard for all the units, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out under their standard. Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai was in command. 26 Pagiel son of Okran was over the division of the tribe of Asher, 27 and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali. 28 This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out.

Let's think about this when they were starting to walk towards the sunrise - straight to east. Let's not worry about the other directions for now. For you see, the camps were set out in order determined by time. Dan was set out last, and it was located on north of the tent. Judah was the first to go. Thus, if they left at the same time yet keeping the order of camps, it's impossible for Dan (on north) to be the last! It'd be Ephraim that's the last one (the westmost one). However, it's declared Dan was set out last. Notice thus that they form (according to Numbers.2) the exact shape of the Cassiopeia constellation while marching provided that they were still obeying the directional orders: Reuben to the south, Dan to the North etc. ("They will set out in the same order as they encamp, each in their own place under their standard.") If the orders concerning the directions were not obeyed during the march, they might've walked in a line, nay, perhaps in a formation not vulnerable to enemies (which could well be the Cassiopeia formation). Have a look at the picture below.

Cassiopeia

Beta (β) would be Judah, Alpha (α) is Reuben, then Levites, then Ephraim and last is Dan (ε). Looks like in Numbers.10 the Levites weren't exactly set out as was demanded in Numbers.2. However, the Levites had their own laws to be obeyed as well. Remember that 24 years after Martin Luther's death a supernova (SN 1572) was recorded in the Cassiopeia (near the letter k in the picture).

An interesting note is written by E.W. Bullinger about Cassiopeia in his book: The Witness of the Stars:

She is indeed highly exalted, and making herself ready. Her hands, no longer bound, are engaged in this happy work. With her right hand she is arranging her robes, while with her left she is adorning her hair. She is seated upon the Arctic circle, and close by the side of Cepheus, the King. This is "the Bride, the Lamb's wife, the heavenly city, the new Jerusalem," the "partakers of the heavenly calling."

Did you know that exactly when Cassiopeia is at its 12 o'clock position above the North Star, Orion rises from the east (during winter)? In some legends, Orion was regarded as Christ because it has its right foot (star called Rigel, meaning "The Foot that Crushes") on Eridanus (sometimes though of as Serpent) - who has crushed the head of the serpent? In like manner, when the time is out, Christ will come for the second time and judge the world. Have a detailed thought on where the Bride is - She is seated upon the Arctic circle! Indeed, His true followers are found from the proximity of the arctic circle - coincidence or no?
